The Electoral Commission (EC) has been requested to extend the limited voter registration time by Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This is in reaction to issues and disturbances that were noticed during the exercise’s first phase.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the need to make up for any lost time resulting from technological difficulties during her tour of Accra’s registration centers.

“Definitely, the EC must make up for that time if there were places, as I hear, where not even a single person was registered or where very few people were registered because of issues with the machines,” the NDC running mate said.

She declared, emphasizing how crucial it is to guarantee complete participation: “If there is an additional day, it should be returned.

“Whatever it is, if it is a couple of hours, it should be extended to the following day just so that everybody registers. I think the job is to ensure that we facilitate the process so as not to frustrate people.”

The EC organized a 21-day limited voter registration exercise across the country, which began on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

First-time voters and those wishing to get a voter card are the target audience for this activity.

The EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, revealed that the process, which started on Monday, May 27, 2024, intends to register some 623,000 new voters.
