A catastrophic fire at Circle ECOMOG in the Greater Accra region has entirely destroyed scores of wooden homes.
Around 4 PM, the fire started, wreaking havoc and sending many residents running for their lives and any valuables they could recover.
Super Scary, one of the residents, described the frantic sight as the flames rapidly spread over the area. Everything happened in a flash. Everything was normal one minute, and then there was flames everywhere,” the man remarked.
Although the exact cause of the fire is still unknown, its quick spread raises the possibility that the densely packed wooden structures and potentially combustible goods stored within may have increased the fire’s intensity.
An inquiry has been launched by the local authorities to ascertain the cause of the incident.
Residents of the Circle ECOMOG neighborhood are currently dealing with the fallout as they pick through the burned-out remnants of their homes in an attempt to save what little they can.
The incident resulted in a power outage in Adabraka and its environs.
At the site, members of the Ghana National Fire Service are attempting to put out the fire.
ADO Alex King Nartey, a representative of the GNFS Public Affairs Department, gave the assurance that the firefighters are in control of the situation.
The spread of the fire has been stopped. We are fighting the fire nonstop,” he declared.
