In an unexpected turn of events, several senior-level ex-police officers have endorsed National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama’s campaign.

In an effort to unseat the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC flagbearer has been traveling the nation with his “Building the Ghana we want” campaign for some time.

Former CID chief and retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye and former IGP Mohammed Alhassan’s deputy, COP Rtd Bright Oduro, were among the former retired security chiefs who visited Ghana.

The former security chiefs’ motivations remain unclear, but information is starting to surface indicating that they think John Mahama has the answer to pull the nation out of its current economic direst rations.

It is well known that Kofi Boakye and John Mahama have a close relationship. There is conjecture among many that he would like to be a running mate.

Numerous former retired service chiefs have reached out to John Mahama to support him in his bid to win a final term as president, according to sources close to the former security chiefs, as reported to media.
