Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has urged Ghanaians to devote themselves to the principles of democracy, which depend on freedom and fairness.

He stated that as the Fourth Republican Constitution’s 30th anniversary is also being observed by Parliament, “we must pause and reflect on the journey thus far.”

“Fellow countrymen and women. On behalf of the Parliament of Ghana, I extend warm greetings to you all as we celebrate our 66th Independence anniversary.  This is a time for us to reflect on the progress we have made as a nation and to recommit ourselves to the ideals of democracy, freedom and justice for which our forefathers fought.

“We must also remember those who paid the ultimate price for our independence and pledge never to take our freedoms for granted,” Mr. Bagbin wrote on his Facebook to mark the 66th Independence Day Celebration underway at Ho in the Volta region on March 6, 2023.
