Ghanaians have been entreated to keep their environments as well as the entire country clean with a name for the stern enforcement of sanitation bye-legal guidelines and the naming and shaming of individuals who flout the legal guidelines.

The Environmental Health Officer of the Bekwai Municipality Mr. Eric Cudjoe in an interview with the media urged, Ghanaians to stop dumping refuse anyhow especially into gutters during a rainy season.

According to him he was of the conviction that the initiative would complement the ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources national sanitation campaign under the tag: “Sesa wo suban” or “Change your bad habit and play your part in cleaning the environment”.

Mr Cudjoe also promised that the environmental unit of Bekwai Municipal Assembly will make sure that all communities who have issues with heaped refuse sites in the Municipality would be evacuated by the end of this year.

He pleaded with Ghanaians especially the people in the Municipality to stop littering around most especially dumping refuse into gutters in this rainy season. He also cautions the citizens from dumping refuse in gutters and drains or else culprits would be fined with an amount of Gh¢ 6000.

“If any country wants to develop, then such a country must take sanitation seriously, as it has the potential to propel growth in a sustainable manner,” he said.
