The Heal Komfo Anokye project has received an estimated donation of GH¢20,000 from the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), which is headed by Mr. Prosper Takyi, the Regional President.
In a social media post seen by Ghanatodayonline.com, the teacher union stated that they are thanking the Asantehene for all of the good things the king has done for the Regional branch of GNAT by carrying out these actions as well as many more.
“#healkomfoanokye , The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), led by the Regional President, Mr Prosper Takyi has donated an amount of GHC 20,000 towards the Heal Komfo Anokye project” Prosper Takyi posted.
With referrals from 12 of Ghana’s 16 regions, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is the country’s second-largest teaching hospital. The proposal aims to address the hospital’s urgent need for infrastructure improvements.
Even though KATH is known for offering innovative research and high-quality, reasonably priced healthcare services, the organization still faces significant infrastructure problems that have an impact on how well patients, guests, and employees are served.
The Heal Komfo Anokye Project, launched by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on November 10, 2023, seeks to address the pressing need for the renovation of the 70-year-old in-patient wards at KATH.
Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer for KATH, expressed gratitude for the donation and urged for continued collective efforts to address the hospital’s challenges.
He specifically highlighted the need for additional equipment, particularly for critical conditions such as machines for dialysis sessions.
Diana Berkoh – Vice Chairman, Atakorah Emmanuel K – Regional Secretary,Ohene Armah Emmanuel – Regional Accountant, Akosua Frimpomaa – Regional Trustee, Benjamin Appiah Kubi – District Chair (Amansie East) accompanied the Regional President to made the donation.
As part of its impact mission, the Asantehene 25th Anniversary Legacy Projects is raising funds and resources to implement a comprehensive plan that will upgrade the infrastructure of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and guarantee that it continues to offer a more functional and efficient medical setting that fosters healing, comfort, and safety for the people of the Ashanti Region and beyond.
It is a tragic and sobering fact that the hospital wards at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are in poor condition. When patients arrive for treatment, they find themselves in a dangerous and decaying setting with little chance of safety, comfort, or hope. A few of the upsetting sights that greet patients and their families are rusty and creaky beds, cracked and chipped floors, broken windows, and peeling paint.
The already serious situation is made worse by the hospital’s lack of contemporary amenities like data networks, ceiling works, nurse paging systems, and public address systems. When seeking medical attention, it is a depressing reality that no patient or family should have to deal with.
