Monday, June 17, 2024, has been formally designated as a public holiday by the Ghanaian government.
In observance of Eid-ul-Adha, which is observed on Sunday, June 16, 2024, this is being done.
Henry Quartey, the Interior Minister, stated in a statement that the decision was taken in compliance with the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601).
Ghana recognizes Eid-Ul-Adha, a major Islamic festival, as a legally mandated public holiday.
Since the celebration falls on a Sunday this year, the government has declared the following Monday as an extra public holiday by an Executive Instrument (E.I).
This change guarantees that people will be able to celebrate the holiday.
The Minister underlined that Monday, June 17, ought to be celebrated as a national holiday, enabling Ghanaians to take part in the celebrations and partake in religious and cultural events related to Eid-Ul-Adha.
