The government has received praise from the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) for including some of its members in the Pokuase housing program.
On August 1, President Akufo-Addo turned the first sod for the start of a project to build 8,000 homes on a 203-acre site in Pokuase, Greater Accra Region.
Under the Revised National Affordable Housing Programme, the Ministry of Works and Housing included the traders in its affordable housing initiative for the nation’s low- and middle-income earners.
The traders expressed their gratitude to the banks and estate developers for working with them to help merchants purchase homes and make the scheme a tremendous success and expressed optimism about their possibilities to own a home.
GUTA also urged with the government to expand the project to other regions of the nation so that other traders can profit from it in a press release that was released on August 9.
In accordance with the policy, the government is intended to subsidize the housing units by giving land and infrastructure to pay a significant portion of the building cost, with the private sector assisting by raising money to build flats on a cost-recovery basis.
