‘Home Boy’ wins big at Wassa Amenfi East NDC Parliamentary primaries

The Amenfi East National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates have once again chosen Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, the sitting member of parliament for the Wassa Amenfi East seat, to lead the party into the 2024 parliamentary election.

At the conclusion of the Amenfi East parliamentary primaries on Saturday, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah received an overwhelming 1,405 votes, or 84% of the total valid votes cast, according to certified figures released by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Joshua Nanaba Atobrah, his lone opponent, received 241 votes, or 12%.

Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, often known as “Home Boy,” is heading the Wassa Amenfi East into an election for the second time.

The majority of people in the next general elections of 2024 had Home Boy retained his position in Wassa Amenfi East because of his remarkable accomplishments during his first term as a Member of Parliament(MP).

The people in Hon. Nicholas Amankwah’s constituency call him “Home Boy” because they think their MP is approachable, obedient, courteous, diligent, and a leader who listens and constantly prioritizes Wassa Amenfi East’s growth.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development declared Hon. Nicholas Amankwah the Western Region’s best-performing Member of Parliament for the year 2022.

Speaking to the media, the NDC constituency chairman for Wassa Amenfi East, Nana Kofi Atokyi commended its members in Amenfi East for the smooth conduct of the parliantary primaries on Saturday.

Chairman Atokyi also praised the Ghana Police Service and the officials from the electorial commission for ensuring that the parliamentary primaries were peaceful.

The constituency chairman said, despite the initial skepticism, officers deployed on the election day appropriately conducted themselves.

Hon. Nicholas Amankwah was the district chief executive for Wassa Amenfi East from 2016 to 2017 under the elsewhere John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

He entered the race for the parliamentary candidate in the National Democratic Congress primaries in the Amenfi East Constituency ahead of the 2020 elections.

Home Boy was acclaimed in August 2019 after he went opposed in the National Democratic Congress primaries making him the NDC’s candidate for the Amenfi East constituency.

In December 2020, hon. Nicholas Amankwah won the seat for Amenfi East Constituency in the parliamentary elections after polling 36,215 votes representing 53.90% against his closest contender, Edward Amo-Acquah of the New Patriotic Party who had 29,954 votes representing 44.58%.
