The Sunyani District Court B has granted bail to former Employment & Labour Relations Minister Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, who was detained in connection with the death of a Kotoko fan during a recent Ghana Premier League (GPL) game between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC in Nsoatre, Bono Region.
Baffour-Awuah and Joseph Kyeremeh were each given GHS500,000 bail with three sureties by the court, which was presided over by Eric Daning.
One of the accused, police officer Agyemang Duah Owusu, was not so fortunate as he was placed under police detention.
Kyeremeh and Nsoatreman FC’s owner and financier, Baffour-Awuah, were accused of “abetting to commit a crime, to wit murder.”
The police inspector, Duah, was accused of murder.
The accused were directed by the court to surrender in their passports to the court registry, report to the police station daily until Monday, February 17, 2025, when they reappear in court, and obtain permission from the court before leaving the Sunyani Municipality.
Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong, a well-known Kotoko supporter, was killed as a result of the violent disruptions during the aforementioned game on Sunday, February 2.
