I’ll oppose any attempt to redefine marriage in any way – Sophia Akuffo

Sophia Akuffo, a former Chief Justice, has declared that she will be one of the protestors in the event that the constitution’s definition of marriage is changed.

In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, the former Chief Justice said she couldn’t understand why someone would try to impose a foreign culture on Ghana.

While everyone is free to express themselves, no one is allowed to insist on leading a lifestyle that is not necessary for survival. We will be extinct in a generation or two if all males sleep with other men and all women sleep with other women. Is it not true?

She pointed out that the Bible warns to multiply, bear fruit, and fill the planet.

“That’s all I have to say if you are not going to set yourself up for the earth’s replenishing in a godly manner. However, it’s one thing to call yourself what you want to call yourself—it, they, or whatever you choose.

But don’t try to push other people into cultures that also are not.

“Why should someone think that their culture is better than yours so they have to insist and threaten that if you cannot be like me you will see what I will do to you. Really, where are the rights in that?

Madam Akuffo went on to query why anyone would wish to adopt a different definition of marriage.

In their criteria, a marriage is a union of a man and a woman. Therefore, a man and a man should refer to their relationship as something else if they wish to live forever. I will be among the protests if we ever attempt to redefine marriage beyond the civil law definition, which states that marriage is between a man and a woman.
