“I’ll reduce unemployment in this country” – Kennedy Agyapong pledges as he files nomination forms

Kennedy Agyapong, a Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, has submitted his nomination to run for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position.

Despite the rain on Wednesday at the party headquarters in Accra, the legislator was surrounded by a multitude of fans.

Along with certain lawmakers and close friends, the 63-year-old billionaire was flanked.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association, was notable among others in his company.

Kennedy Agyapong is the seventh party member to submit his paperwork in order to run for office.
After submitting his nomination, Agyapong spoke to the media and pledged that, if elected, he will lower unemployment in the nation.

“As a Member of Parliament for the past 23 years, I have to admit that the challenge of the government and successive government is unemployment.”

“And therefore, I have taken it upon myself to make sure I reduce unemployment in this country, I want those of you watching to believe in me that whatever I say, by the Grace of God and with good health, I will deliver,” Agyapong said.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, Dr. Konadu Apraku, and former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto are some of the people who have so far volunteered for the job.

The party will choose a standard bearer for the 2024 elections on November 4.

To shortlist five of them before this, the party will conduct a Special Congress on August 26.

Before the deadline of June 24, further members including Addai Nimoh, Joe Ghartey, Kwadwo Poku are also anticipated to submit their nominations.
