Islamic SHS demo: Examination suspended after 22 students hospitalized

Islamic Senior High School authorities have suspended their examination after 22 out of 38 students hospitalized after yesterday shooting incident.

The Ministry of Education led by the deputy Minister of Education, Hon John Ntim Fordjour accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, the Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Samuel Pyne and CHASS President has visited the affected students at the various health facilities in Ashanti and says 22 out of 38 students have been discharged.

The Minister addressed the student population and promised that the ministry will do everything possible to meet the demands of the students in order for teaching and learning to continue.

According to Hon Ntim Fordjour out of the thirty-eight (38) students who went unconscious, twenty-two (22) have been discharged as of yesterday and have joined their colleagues on campus and the rest are receiving treatment at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Emergency Unit.

Students of the Islamic Senior High School at Abrepo in Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti Region took to the streets to protest against pedestrian knockdowns at the forecourt of the school which ended in chaos with Police.

The reports indicate that the students took to the streets and blocked the road but the police tried to disperse a crowd of the students when they were demonstrating thereby leading to at least 30 students collapsing.
