In her witness statement at her criminal prosecution, galamsey kingpin Aisha Huang denied any involvement in mining or mining support activities.

Aisha Huang is accused of engaging in unlawful mining, often known as galamsey, without a permit after illegally entering Ghana after being deported in 2018.

She was implicated in illicit mining in the Ashanti Region, more specifically in the Amansie South District, according to 11 witnesses that the state called.

Aisha Huang contends that her business has never worked in the mining industry and does not have a mining license. She contends that the prosecution’s proof is untrue.

Huang Lei, the son of Aisha Huang, pleaded guilty to accusations of remaining in Ghana after the expiration of his permit, possessing ammunition without a license, and possessing fraudulent government documents. He was found guilty in March 2023 and given a fine of GH10,800.

Huang Lei and other Chinese nationals were detained for the identical offenses in November of the previous year. The defendants initially entered a not guilty plea before Justice Lydia Osei Marfo.

On the other hand, Huang Lei’s attorney disclosed preparations for his client to switch to a guilty plea on December 16, 2022.

So, in criminal court 4 before Justice Comfort Tasiame, Aisha Huang’s son entered a guilty plea.
