Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), has declared himself eligible to run in the party’s presidential primary elections.
On Wednesday, June 21, Mr. Agyapong filed at the party’s headquarters.
Shortly after filing, he spoke to the media and urged the party to stop using meaningless slogans in favor of coming up with creative solutions to Ghana’s problems.
He claims that inclusivity, economic progress, and environmental development would form the foundation of his agenda.
Speaking to the media, Agyepong stated: “Ghana is really at a crossroads, and what the country needs urgently now is a NEW DAWN of astute political leadership with a Vision that inspires hope in the youth and rekindles the faith of Ghanaians in our Constitutional Democracy.”
“I am offering myself anchored in the belief that the NPP needs a leader who is intensely action-oriented, passionately mission-driven, very demanding of results and prepared to chase progress,” Agyapong stated.
With his submission, there are now eight candidates who have submitted their candidacy forms.
Former trades minister Alan Kyerematen, ex-minister of energy Boakye Agyarko, vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, doctor Konadu Apraku, and ex-minister of agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto have all already submitted their nominations.
On November 4, 2023, the New Patriotic Party will choose a flagbearer for the elections of 2024.
But in order to reduce it to five, the party will summon a Special Congress on August 26.
