The New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the Ashanti Region’s Ejisu constituency on April 13 saw private attorney Kwabena Boateng emerge victorious.

In order to become the NPP’s parliamentary candidate ahead of the by-election, he defeated eight opponents, including Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The others were Yaa Gyamera Aboagye, Dr. Evans Duah, Aaron Prince Duah, Helena Mensah, Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah-Boaitey, and Klinsman Karikari Mensah.

Kwabena Boateng received 394 of the 1033 valid votes cast, according to the Electoral Commission.
With 302 votes, Madam Helena Mensah was his closest rival. Kwesi Nyantakyi, the previous head of the GFA, received only 35 votes, while Yaa Gyamera Aboagye received 229 votes.

At first, it was thought that Kwabena Boateng and Dr. Evans Duah would share the remaining votes, which may have hurt his chances of winning.

Nevertheless, Kwabena Boateng defeated Dr. Evans Duah and the other candidates with a mere 63 votes.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Boateng expressed gratitude to the delegates for selecting him as the NPP parliamentary candidate and for their trust.

In addition to promising to be a good MP representative for the people of Ejisu if elected, he dedicated his victory to the late MP Dr. John Kumah.

This primary was held prior of the by-election at Ejisu. The by-election was prompted by the passing of Dr. John Kumah, a member of the NPP.

At the age of 45, Dr. John Kumah, a deputy finance minister, passed away on Thursday, March 7.
The by-election has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, by the Electoral Commission.
