The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Mahama, has declared his intention to construct a dialysis facility in Bolgatanga, the Upper East region’s capital.

This is a big step forward because it will save lives and lessen the cost of medical care for people who presently have to travel to Kumasi and Accra.

In order to relieve pressure on the regional hospital, Mr. Mahama also promised to give priority to building a well-equipped polyclinic and municipal hospital during a meeting with members of the Upper East Region House of Chiefs on Friday.

The former president also pledged to establish mining offices in every gold-mining district as part of his two-day #BuildingGhanaTour, decentralizing mining licensing and regulatory functions to support artisanal mining in the areas.

“Everyone involved in mining will be present at the district office. You don’t need to travel to Accra in order to apply for a small-scale mining concession. They will oversee, and you will apply right there in the district,” he stated.

He states that although gold mining has grown in importance in the region, it still needs to be organized for the benefit of the populace. He continued by saying that there are a lot of other locations to explore “and we can get local Ghanaian companies and young artisanal miners to do the mining, but we must supervise it, so they do it in a safe manner.”

Mahama pointed out the burden of taxes and levies on Ghanaians as he criticized the government’s economic team for their reckless management of the economy. According to him, businesses and industries are being taxed to “death.”

Mahama also spoke about the Bawku crisis, pledging to work toward a solution that would ensure both economic growth and development and bring peace to the region.

He emphasized the importance of integrity in politics in his concluding remarks and urged leaders to avoid making empty promises.

He emphasized that Ghanaians should expect their leaders to be open and accountable.

The former president’s trip to the Upper East shows how dedicated he is to interacting with locals and resolving their issues.
