The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana stresses that before considering ending the current strike among its members, government cooperation is necessary in addressing important proposals.

The association and government representatives met yesterday, Thursday, February 1, and the main topic of discussion was how to break the impasse that has caused the association and the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWUG) to go on strike for more than a week.

The main point of contention centers on the government’s disregard for the unions’ concerns about pensions.

In an interview with Citi News, Isaac Donkoh, the National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, restated the association’s position, saying that the strike will continue until the government sufficiently complies with their demands. Donkoh emphasized the gravity of the unions’ proposals and conveyed optimism for a speedy resolution.

“The government has received some proposals from the Association or the unions. In good faith, the government has taken it and will respond to us within a few days. The strike is still in effect until then. Thus, it is better for all of us if they can resolve it quickly,” Donkoh stated.
