The just concluded 13th African Games has been characterized by the Minority in Parliament as a historic tragedy.

Despite the fact that $240 million was spent on the event, certain members of the Ghanaian delegation have experienced issues, which has drawn criticism from National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs).

The country’s contingent and organizers were praised by President Akufo-Addo in a statement, with the latter saying that their achievements had shamed the doubters.

However, Komla Mensah Woyome, the minority spokesman for youth and sports in parliament, told the media that while the President’s labeling of opponents as naysayers is concerning, it is not shocking.

He said that the administration had chosen party apparatchiks over sports legends for the Games.

As a result, the South Tongu MP demanded a bipartisan Parliamentary investigation of the funding and expenses related to the planning and execution of the Games.

Mr. Woyome, however, gave recognition to the athletes who overcame obstacles to win the most medals in the nation’s history.
