The Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi West Hon, Eric Afful says he is not satisfied with the answer provided by the minister of roads and Highways when he appeared before parliament to answer his question on when the government will pay compensation to the affected farmers during clearing stage of the road constructions in certain communities in his constituency and also the percentage of work done so far.

The question filed by the MP was, when will the government pay compensation to the affected farmers whose farms were destroyed during the construction of the roads at Asakrem Bremang-Fordjorkrom and Samreboi Junction-Mumuni- Prestea.

Answering the question on the floor of parliament, the Roads and Highway Minister Hon, Amoako Atta said, ” Mr speaker during the implementation of the project some properties were affected and the cost for compensation was assessed by the land valuation division of the Land’s Commission, approval has been made for the payment of Ghc 1,906,942.37 as compensation to the affected cocoa farmers by the contractor”

The Minister indicated that the contractor is yet to make payment.

The Road Minister further informed the house about the percentage of work done so far, from Aboi Junction, Amoaku Junction to Mumuni road project is at 69% physical completion, Samreboi road is also projected at 59.5% completion and finally upgrading of Pretea Samreboi road is also projected at 43% in completion.

However, the Member of Parliament Hon Eric Afful has challenged the figures provided by the Minister on percentage of work done and also the current condition of the road.

“Mr Speaker currently the road is a security threat to the residents, more importantly the Minister  indicated that construction of Aboi Junction- Amoaku Junction to Mumuni roads is projected at 69% physical completion and also Prestea-Samreboi road is projected at 59.5%, Mr speaker, I want the minister to rechecked his figures because these figures do not reflect the current status of these roads, so am reporting to the Minister himself to visit the site again” he emphasized.

But the minister responded that he relied on his competent Technical Team for the figures given to him.
