The MTN Ghana Foundation has awarded the second batch of scholarships under its Bright Scholarship Reloaded program to 120 students.
To help pay for their studies at the public institutions around the nation, the second 120 tertiary students were given scholarship.
MTN grants are available. Reloaded has upgraded the MTN Bright Scholarship, which started in 2018. The program is planned to provide financial aid to 300 students.
The students were awarded on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Bright Scholarship Event for tertiary students hosted by the MTN Foundation at the Law Faculty Block, KNUST- Kumasi.
The second group of sixty (60) beneficiaries from the Northern sector received their awards during the first section of the ceremony, which was conducted in Accra for sixty (60) beneficiary pupils who represented the Southern sector.
A Board Member of the MTN Foundation spoke on behalf of Mr. Samuel Koranteng, Chief Executive Officer of MTN, and stated that the Bright Scholarship was designed to lessen the financial burden on beneficiary students, particularly the gifted but needy ones, so that their life goals might become a reality.
Beneficiaries, he stated, will have their tuition costs covered. Additionally, he stated that each beneficiary will receive a laptop, housing, and a stipend each semester.
He disclosed that the MTN Bright Scholarship will be given to a total of One Hundred and Twenty (120) students attending public tertiary institutions for the 2023–2024 academic year. He mentioned that there were preparations in place for the future to ensure that many pupils benefited from this approach.
He claimed that this year’s edition put more of an emphasis on pupils studying computer science, STEM, and students with handicaps.
Out of 1,900 applications from 17 public institutions, 200 were initially selected for interviews, according to him.
He added that the program selected 120 individuals nationwide after conducting extensive interviews.
He pleaded with the recipients to ensure that the award’s intended results materialized.
He said that if beneficiaries take their education seriously, they will be proud of themselves, their parents, the MTN foundation, and the country.
The board member further assured the audience that they will keep making investments in sectors like health, education, and economic development.
The MTN Foundation has received praise from the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, for providing scholarships to One Hundred and Twenty (120) students as part of its Bright Scholarship Program.
The minister praised the telecom network for carrying out its social responsibility duties and urged other businesses and corporate groups to follow suit in order to assure progress.
The regional minister stated that it was time for everyone to contribute their fair share to the call for education reform and reaffirmed the government’s willingness to support any initiatives in this direction.
He claimed that the Akuffo Addo-led NPP government, which is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to a high-quality education, would never give up on its goals.
Some of the program’s beneficiaries who spoke with this reporter claimed that the program will free them from the many struggles they currently face.
The recipients come from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the University of Ghana, Cape Coast University, University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS), University of Development Studies (UDS), and University of Education, Winneba.
The MTN Bright Award Reloaded is an improvement of the 2018-launched MTN Bright Scholarship. The program is designed to help 300 students with their financial obligations.
