The leading telecom service provider in Ghana, Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana), has released its financial results for the year that ended on December 31, 2023. The company demonstrated its adaptability and tenacity in the face of a difficult operating climate by achieving exceptional growth in key financial measures.

In order to accomplish universal access and expedite Ghana’s digital process, MTN Ghana further said that it is committed to expanding national roaming relationships with AT (previously AirtelTigo) and Telecel (formerly Vodafone).  Presently, MTN Ghana is nearing the end of talks with Telecel and has completed a long-term arrangement with AT that began in January 2024.

Operational and financial review

Voice, data, and Mobile Money drove 34.6% YoY growth in service revenue for MTN Ghana. Well-executed commercial strategy, our concentrated investment in preserving high network quality, coverage, and providing excellent service to our clients, as well as advancements in our pricing initiatives throughout the company, are all responsible for the strong performance.

The firm spent a total of GHS3.3 billion on core capital expenditures to update its infrastructure, improve its IT systems, and increase the capacity and coverage of its nationwide network in order to maintain its industry-leading customer experience. MTN Ghana installed 350 2G, 353 3G, and 350 4G stations as part of these initiatives, enabling a 99.3% 4G population coverage.

While acknowledging the anticipated challenges of the macroeconomic environment, MTN Ghana remains optimistic about the future. MTN emphasized its commitment to its Ambition 2025 strategy, focusing on developing its platforms to unlock further value for stakeholders, and continuously improving its network and services to deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Commenting on the results, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh said that, “The business performance is a testament to our continuous investment in our network and service to deliver excellent service to our customers. As we inch closer to the realization of our Ambition 2025 Strategic intent, we remain confident that our resilience would be key to leading the progress of the country through our platform businesses”.
