Dr. Ransford Abbey, the acting CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has informed stakeholders in the cocoa business of his commitment to improving the standard of life for cocoa farmers and fostering industry growth.
Dr. Abbey reaffirmed his support for President John Dramani Mahama’s objective for the cocoa sector.
He emphasized that a primary goal of this strategy is to place farmers at the center of the development and implementation of policies.
The acting CEO also said that he has already been communicating directly with cocoa growers as part of his hands-on leadership approach, demonstrating his intention to establish strong relationships with stakeholders.
“All we will bring on board will be hard work and strong leadership to deliver on the President’s vision as long as the cocoa industry is concerned.
“I had a meeting with cocoa farmers this morning and the President’s vision is to put the cocoa farmer at the centre of everything so we will engage more and we know where the problems are and we are going to turn things around.”
Ghana, the world’s second-largest cocoa producer, relies heavily on the commodity for both its export earnings and economic expansion.
However, cocoa growers have long faced issues with low prices, limited access to inputs, and the impact of climate change on productivity.
Randy Abbey recognized the problems and underlined that in order to develop lasting solutions, parties must collaborate.
