Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, is the running mate of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate and a former member of parliament for Manhyia South.
He has made a sizable donation to help traders impacted by the recent fire at the Adum Blue Light market in the city of Kumasi.
To help the victims rebuild their companies and regain their lives, Napo donated 500 bags of cement and GH₵50,000.
His kind donation comes after Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president and NPP presidential candidate for 2024, visited the area and offered the impacted traders his condolences and assistance.
During the presentation, Napo emphasized the value of solidarity and urged the traders to maintain their fortitude and unity in the face of the catastrophe.
He noted that his appearance was to reiterate his commitment to aiding the victims, acknowledging the previous visits of Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, the Regional Minister, and even former President Mahama.
“I am aware that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the regional minister, Kennedy Agyapong, and other dignitaries have already visited you.
Even President Mahama and some NPP executives have shown their support.
Therefore, it was only right for me to come here and show my solidarity with you,” Napo said.
A number of traders are assessing their losses, which are estimated to be in the millions of Cedis, after the market was largely devastated by the horrific fire that recently broke out.
Those impacted are currently struggling to deal with the disaster’s aftermath and salvage what is left of their merchandise.
The Subin Constituency’s Member of Parliament, Kofi Obiri Yeboah, revealed that once the matter was brought up in Parliament, a committee was established to look into the occurrence and consider how to help the victims.
He called for unity among the impacted traders and thanked everyone who had offered support, including Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Dr. Bawumia.
Napo further reaffirmed his commitment to support the victims during their recuperation by announcing that GH₵100,000 would be given from the Manhyia South MP’s Common Fund to further aid their recuperation efforts.
