Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has denounced the arrest of #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstrators from Democracy Hub.

The group identifying themselves as Democracy Hub was on the #OccupyJulorbiHouse on Thursday, September 21, 2023 when the police arrived in a bus and arrested them.

In connection with a planned protest at the Jubilee House from September 21 to 23, 2023, the Police had filed a court action and successfully served the organizers of a group calling itself Democracy Hub.

“As we wait for the court to determine the matter, we wish to urge the public to take note and disregard any calls from any individuals or groups encouraging them to assemble for a demonstration at the Jubilee House.

The Ghana Police Service told the organizers, “We equally wish to urge the organizers to respect the due process in the interest of public order and public safety.”

The NDC General Secretary commented on the arrest, calling it an insult to Ghana’s democracy.

The NDC General Secretary declared in a statement on Thursday, “We must protect our democracy from the tyranny and intolerance of this authoritarian government.”

The statement signed by Fiifi Kwetey stated “This shameful show of brute force runs counter to that. Its regrettable the police would think thatviolence and suppression of human rights is the best way to address issues”

“After 31 years of opur democratic journey, it is a crying shamethat we cannot find more peacefulways to address these issues. This is a massive step backward for our democracy” the statement added.
