The management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has suspended two doctors and two nurses linked to the purported denial of emergency care to a road accident victim who subsequently died from his injuries after being rejected by three hospitals while in an ambulance.

The resolution was included in a declaration released by the hospital on Monday, February 23, 2026, following public anger regarding claims that the victim was rejected even though they were in critical condition.

The hospital stated that the employees have been temporarily suspended from their roles while investigations are ongoing.

Management has established a committee to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the conditions related to the incident and assess if existing emergency care protocols were violated.

All individuals associated with the case have been instructed to assist with the investigation to guarantee openness and equity.

The late Charles Amissah, a 29-year-old engineer at Promasidor Ghana Limited, suffered major shoulder injuries in a hit-and-run incident at the Circle Overpass in Accra on February 6, 2026.

He was stabilised by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel and prepared for transfer to a hospital for further treatment.

Reports indicate that Amissah was unable to secure admission at the Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and Korle Bu due to a lack of available beds. While at Korle Bu, he reportedly went into cardiac arrest.

Although cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was later pronounced dead.

The hospital has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and pledged to update the public once investigations are concluded.
