Farouk Aliu Mahama has been formally chosen by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to represent the Yendi Constituency in the upcoming 2024 elections as their parliamentary candidate.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) decided on the matter after convening to discuss a number of matters. On Tuesday, April 9, the party made this announcement in a press release that was signed by Justin Frimpong Kodua, its general secretary.
The NPP has officially confirmed Farouk Aliu Mahama as its candidate, following a period of unrest in the Yendi constituency. Violence erupted during the ballot counting process for the parliamentary primary on January 27, 2024.
Farouk Aliu Mahama and Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, the CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Center (MASLOC), competed in the primary.
Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah petitioned the party’s leadership over the disorderly atmosphere that interfered with the counting exercise. She demanded that the election results be revoked, claiming that certain party officials had colluded to rig the results in favor of a particular candidate.
She underlined in her petition how crucial it is for the NPP to preserve democratic principles.
The NPP’s National Executive Committee upheld its choice to designate Farouk Aliu Mahama as the party’s Yendi candidate in the face of controversy surrounding the primary. The party’s confidence in his leadership and capacity to effectively represent the constituency is demonstrated by this action.
The NPP’s choice demonstrates its unwavering dedication to upholding justice and openness in its internal procedures despite obstacles.
