John Dramanai Mahama, a former president and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer candidate, asserts that the party will undoubtedly prevail in a free and fair election in 2024.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to the former president, is already appointing politically tarred persons to occupy the Election Commission (EC) offices prior to the 2024 general elections because it is afraid of the NDC’s impending win and the failing economy.

Mr. Mahama announced the NDC is prepared to teach all agents, branch and constituency executives to remain vigilant, act appropriately, and police polling places in the 2024 elections as he addressed the Nkawkaw branch and constituency executives to conclude his 3-day tour of the Eastern Region.

“You have to protect the ballot boxes during the 2024 general elections, ensure that no one puts in any foreign materials. We will train you all to police the ballot boxes. We want the elections to be free and fair, if it’s devoid of rigging, we will definitely win by God’s grace. We will not rig the elections, so we don’t expect anyone to rig the elections. The NPP government is scared of us, that’s why they have appointed their own people as board members to the Electoral Commission. But we will defeat them by using Azumah Nelson’s tactics,” Mahama stated.

On Monday, March 20, President Akufo-Addo swore in three new members of the EC governing board in accordance with Article 43 (1 and 2) of the 1992 Constitution.

Rev. Akua Ofori Boateng Salima, Ahmed Tijani, and Dr. Peter Appiahene were the three.

Kofi Adams, a member of parliament for the Buem constituency and a former national organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo for naming a well-known NPP official to the Electoral Commission’s board.

He asserted that Dr. Peter Appiahene is a member of the NPP and a supporter of the Tertiary Education Student Confederacy Network (TESCON), the NPP’s student wing.
