The forthcoming Assin North by-election nomination period will begin on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, according to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The choice was made at its Steering Committee (SC) meeting on May 30, 2023, which also revealed the dates for the legislative primary.
The election is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, 2023, while nominations must be submitted by Thursday, June 1, 2023.
In a statement, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua made the following claims: “The Party has also approved detailed Rules and Regulations to govern the conduct of the parliamentary primary election which would be made available to stakeholders. However, Nomination Forms will be available at the Constituency Party Office for purchase.”
Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, Clerk to Parliament, has written to the Electoral Commission (EC) to inform them of the vacancy in the Assin North Constituency.
James Gyakye Quayson’s election as the Member of Parliament for Assin North was deemed null, void, and illegal by the Supreme Court in a unanimous ruling.
James Quayson’s election while he had allegiance to a nation other than Ghana, according to the seven-member panel chaired by Justice Jones Dotse, is “inconsistent with and violates Article 94(2) (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana 1992.”
