NPP presidential primary was ‘one man against the whole system’ – Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong, a Member of Parliament(MP) for Assin Central Constituency in the Central region, declared that the November 4 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary was a competition between him and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s whole administration.

Speaking on November 11, at a thank-you ceremony in Accra for his campaign team and supporters, Ken claimed that his opponents had consistently underestimated him, which was why they were taken aback by the over 37% of votes he received.

He emphasized that the people who made such claims are now silent and cited statements indicating that he will receive fewer than 15% or, at best, 20% of the vote.

“We all fought a good fight. Wwent into a contest and as you know, you either win or lose. This contest was one man against the whole system,” he said to cheers from the gathering that brought together campaign officers and supporters from across the country.

“They underestimated me, when the election was getting close, I was told I will get 10% maximum. Others floated a research finding that I will get 15%, today they are all hiding,” He emphasized.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia won the party’s flagbearer battle with 61.47% of the votes cast by approximately 200,000 delegates after the ballot on November 4.

Ken Agyapong, his nearest competitor, received a startling 37.41% of the vote, surprising both observers and opponents.

Party members who had before chastised Ken during the campaigns have now praised him. This week, Bawumia paid Ken a visit at his home in what is said to be an initial attempt to enlist his support for the 2024 campaign.
