Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Member of Parliament for the Ashanti region’s Suame Constituency, is pleading with NPP delegates to choose a leader who will prioritize economic development and utilize digital technology to meet the needs of the present era.
The Majority Leader of Parliament, who also serves as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, stated on the OTEC FM political talkshow dubbed ‘Dwabrem’ in an interview with Prince Nii Ade (Dok Cash) in Kumasi, “All four candidates contesting the election to lead the party into election 2024 by our constitution qualify to contest which they are doing.”
Not everyone, nevertheless, is able to advance the expected national development goal and help the NPP realize its governance objective in the context of Ghana’s politics today.
The Vice President has amply proved his capacity to turn around the nation’s economy, therefore on November 4, 2024, party delegates should offer him the encouragement he needs. Thus, based on what I have observed in Dr. Bawumia, I am endorsing him,” he stated.
The member of parliament for Suame maintains that the Russian-Ukrainian war, not the carelessness of the New Patriotic party administration, is to blame for the nation’s economic difficulties.
“We are struggling in Ghana currently not because we have been reckless in government but because of the Russian Ukraine war. The war has really hurt our agricultural sector. This is because they are our main source of fertilizer and other food supply. They are also one of our major suppliers of building construction materials. In parliament our opponent, the NDC once in Parliament questioned if the bombs are landing in Ghana forgetting our trade relationship with Ukraine’’ he said.
He referred to as unfounded the attacks on Dr. Bawumia’s economic management by the NDC and other NPP presidential aspirants.
Although not solely responsible for handling the economy directly, the Vice President was a part of the team that managed the economy. He questioned, “Did we blame his Vice President John Dramani Mahama for mismanaging the economy as the head of the economic management under the late President John Evans Atta Mills?”
“The President receives advice and reviews from his economic adviser on every idea that reaches his desk. The President, he clarified, has the final say over whether to accept or reject the suggestion made by the Vice President, who is not solely in control of the Economic Management team” he added.
He clarified that the few measures that the Vice President had the chance to spearhead and carry out had a favorable effect on the nation’s economy.
“The current digitalization drive’s effects include reducing corruption, raising government revenue correction, and simplifying corporate interactions by utilizing digital platforms. The policy of using gold for oil has also aided and prevented illicit gold exports and transactions in Ghana.
He urged the delegates to support the vice president in order for him to harness technology, among other things, to carry out his vision for Ghana.
