The New Patriotic Party’s beleaguered Ashanti Regional Chairman, who is suspected of disrespecting the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has turned up to observe the party’s parliamentary primaries despite the party’s Monday claim that he was unwell.

The Kumasi Traditional Council, which had called Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, was urged to grant the ruling party’s general secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, a few more days to produce Wontumi and provide an explanation that he was hospitalized following an illness.

But judging by his appearance in Bantama overseeing the elections, it seems the raucous Chairman was unable to hold back for very long.

Wontumi addressed the media, referring to his Majesty as his Lord and the ruler of the Ashanti Kingdom.

But he refrained from commenting on his impending appearance before the Kumasi Traditional Council, where he is expected to respond to accusations on Monday regarding, among other things, his alleged insistence that he (Wontumi) owned his own kingdom and had the right to confront anybody, even an Asantehene.

Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako praised the party executives for the well-organized conduct of the elections and characterized the parliamentary primaries in the party’s stronghold as peaceful, free, and fair.

The election is going very smoothly. Being the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman makes me proud. We appreciate everyone starting this process in such a calm manner.

He cautioned losing candidates, demanding that they all realize that a winner signifies victory for the party as a whole.

“Any winner ought to be aware that it’s an NPP victory.” Few people won’t be enough to win the elections.

‘’The decision was made by the executives of the polling station and the constituency. “It’s important for breaking the eight,” he said, adding that it’s a free and fair election and everyone should accept the results.
