Confusion has plagued the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries, which are currently taking place in the Northern Region’s Yendi constituency.

According to reports, the confusion began when Abibata Shani Mahama Zakaria, an opponent’s supporter, accused an Electoral Commission (EC) officer of using permanent ink to tamper with his favorite candidate’s ballots.

The election process was stopped, according to JoyNews’ Martina Bugri, when additional NPP supporters who had gathered at the scene joined in and caused chaos.

According to her, other properties at the scene were vandalized, and as of right now, all of the ballots have been destroyed.

The media staff was attacked, and the EC official was also pummeled.

The police have detained a few of the offenders in the interim.

In Yendi, the Ghana Police Service has detained one suspect and is currently looking for more people who may have committed electoral offenses.

In a statement, the Police Service said that the suspects are thought to have tampered with voting materials while the New Patriotic Party was conducting internal parliamentary elections.

“The Police worked together with the Military, in line with our established protocols, to restore law, order and security in the area.

“No persons were injured during the disturbances.

“We wish to assure the public that all persons behind this unfortunate act shall be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement concluded.
