A near-fatal accident involving around 30 herdsmen driving livestock in a truck from Akateng in Upper Manya Krobo to Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region has occurred.

On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, about 5:00 pm, the accident took place.

The Asia Truck with the license plate GG 979-21 was transporting the animals and the herdsmen, most of whom were Fulani.

The vehicle allegedly experienced a sudden tyre burst as it was descending toward the dangerous Asitey junction-sharp curve stretch of the Otorkpolu to Odumase highway, which caused the driver to lose control of the steering wheel and cause the vehicle to flip before colliding with the side of the road.

Nearly 29 of the ranchers had serious or severe injuries. Some of the cattle perished, while others were hurt. However, the driver and two other people made it out safely.

The St. Martin’s Deporres Hospital in Agormanya received the human victims immediately after their rescue.

Emergency care was given to the victims by the on-duty medical staff and medical director Dr. Stephen Kusi.
