The minister of Interior Hon, Ambrose Derry has assured the family of a mobile money vendor Abubakar Razak who was shot and killed at his shop by unknown armed robbers in Sawla, that the police are working hard to arrest the culprit and bring them to book.
Answering Hon, Andrew Dari Chiwitey MP for Sawla Tuna Kalba’s question on the floor of parliament, on what urgent steps are been taken to curb the devastating activities of armed robbery at Sawla Tuna Kalba constituency which has claimed two lives, the Minister said the investigation is still ongoing.
The minister revealed that “Mr Speaker on 25th of March 2022 at about 19hours a mobile money vendor named Abubakar Razak was attacked and killed by unknown gun men in the shop, investigation is still ongoing to arrest the suspects and bring them to book”
“In current facts it is unfortunate incident, the police administration has intensify regular petrol at high place in the community within the constituency, check points has also be mounted vantage point such as Gakiase, nkwabi, Ginapor and Gaticomase, Mr speaker sensitization program, all kinds of prevention in schools, churches, mosque and markets has been organised by the police administration, further more more in collaboration with the assemblyman and traditional leaders neaboured watch committee has also been informed in some community including Sawla to complement the police efforts in combating armed robbery in the Constituency” he emphasized.
The Member of Parliament for Sawla Tuna Kalba constituency Hon, Andrew Dari Chiwitey charged the Interior minister to provide the necessary tools for police in his Constituency in order to carry out their operations effectively since the residents are now living in fear.
According to sources at Ghanatodayonline.com, the victim had his money stolen before being shot by an assailant on a motorcycle. The Sawla district hospital is where he was stabilized after being taken there.
According to a second source, the person was sent to the Tamale Teaching on Sunday after experiencing early difficulties with an oxygen deficit at the hospital and ambulance.
In the town, criminals have attacked mobile money merchants twice in the last four months.
On December 9th, 2021, thieves robbed a mobile money vendor of his money and phone in the town before shooting and killing two people.
According to local law enforcement, an inquiry into the most recent incident has already started.
