Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has the backing of Sammi Awuku, Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), who has reaffirmed his support for him.

The NPP will be led by Bawumia in the 2024 elections.

Sammi Awuku is confident that Dr. Bawumia is the best person to assist the NPP in breaking its eight-year cycle.

Speaking on Kumasi based Otec FM’s “Dwabrem” program hosted by Prince Nii Ade(Dok Cash), he praised the Veep as the one who would make it easier for the NPP to win the upcoming general elections and disputed claims that Dr. Bawumia would not receive support from Christians and Akans.

“Politics is about choices. My support for Bawumia will come with its own problems and good news and goodwill with Bawumia, you will now have a strategic candidate who will make our work easier to sell,”Mr Awuku stated.

He added that one of Dr. Bawumia’s best qualities is his magnanimity and that both Christians and members of the Akan tribe adore him.

Mr. Awuku listed the Vice President’s admirable deeds, saying that “on his own, he has built schools and supported the building of churches.”

On January 7, 2025, Sammi Awuku said, “My biggest joy will be that I see an NPP administration handing over to another NPP administration.” He urged the various NPP camps to promote their candidates without using derogatory language. It’s a competition of thoughts. Don’t disrespect those who are Dr. Bawumia’s supporters back. Promote the candidate and his special attributes.

According to its constitution, the NPP will reduce its list of potential presidential candidates from ten to five on August 26.

The NPP claims to be creating a fresh register in the meantime for its special delegates’ congress on August 26.

The party claims that a fresh registration will be required because some of the delegates have already passed away.

A fresh register would be available by the end of the week, according to Justin Kodua Frimpong Koduah, general secretary of the party.

“We are in the final stage of doing the compilation. Basically, we are not going to exceed 1000 so between 900 and 1000 delegates will form the special electoral college.”
