The public has been cautioned by the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) to expect more rainfall in the southern part of the nation.

This advice is in reaction to Monday’s heavy rains that Accra had to deal with.

Felicity Ahafianyo, Head of Central Analysis and Forecast for GMet, emphasized in an interview with media that residents should get ready for consistent rain, particularly from now until the end of July.

“We should be expecting every day or every other day, we will be experiencing rains in the southern sector. For the northern sector, they are not preparing for their rain storm so once in a while they will get rain which is likely to be moderate or severe and will come with strong wind that is likely to bring destruction, ripping off roofing sheets and possibly taking down tree branches.

“Therefore, we in the southern sector can relax knowing that from now until the end of June and July, we will experience some rain. It will typically be accompanied by moderate windy conditions, lightning, and thunderstorms,” Madam Ahafianyo said.

Rainfall in the wee hours of Monday, May 6, caused major traffic jams on the roadways, trapping and soaking a large number of traders, students, business employees, and drivers.

Drivers were forced to pull over on the side of the road to get away from the pouring rain in places including Pokuase, Achimota, Odawna, Tesano, and Alajo.
