The Ashanti Region’s Fomena and Kumawu Hospitals were officially opened by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday. The public and traditional leaders were present at two distinct, colorful celebrations.
Modern amenities like maternity and pediatric wards, therapy and consultation rooms, theaters and recovery rooms, public health department, accident and emergency center, laundry, and mortuary are all included in the 120-bed state-of-the-art facilities built by NMS Infrastructure Limited.
They have specialty departments and state-of-the-art technology to offer comprehensive primary healthcare as well as a wide variety of services to residents of the two districts and beyond.
In order to improve Ghanaians’ quality of life through better healthcare services, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his government’s unshakable commitment to finishing important projects, regardless of whose administration started them.
He claimed that the completion of the Fomena Hospital was evidence of his administration’s commitment to delivering modern medical facilities that meet the highest national standards.
He stated that the two projects were a part of a larger plan to finish several healthcare projects. He listed the following hospitals that were scheduled for commissioning: the Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sewua, a public health facility at Akontonbra, five hospitals in Elubo, Mpohor, Bogoso, Nsuaem, and Wassa Akropong.
“By the end of 2024, we will also complete several significant projects including the urology and nephrology Centre of excellence at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital,” the President stated.
He also spoke about the construction of 11 district hospitals and one polyclinic in the Ashanti, Eastern, Greater Accra and Ahafo Regions and various treatment and holding centres being under construction.
“These efforts align with our commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage, and guarantee improved and more efficient health services for all Ghanaians,” he stated.
The President claims that the government’s commitment to enhancing the nation’s healthcare delivery system is demonstrated by the Agenda 111 program, which offers 111 conventional 100-bed district hospitals together with lodging for physicians and nurses.
He reiterated that the government had made significant expenditures in the health sector to finish as many infrastructure projects as possible for the benefit of all Ghanaians, assuring the people that their confidence in his administration would not be in vain.
He emphasized that the Fomena hospital was an example of how public funds were used responsibly and that the government was dedicated to building more basic, secondary, and tertiary healthcare facilities around the country.
