Many of the staunch ministers that President Akufo-Addo had appointed during the previous seven years have been removed from office as a result of his significant shake-up of the administration.

Mohammed Amin Adam, who joined the Ministry a year ago as a Minister of State after moving from the Energy Ministry, has been appointed as a substantive Minister, replacing Ken Ofori-Atta, who had endured repeated requests for his removal from the Finance Ministry.

The President has also removed Interior Minister and Nandom MP Ambrose Dery and Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu, both MPs from Dormaa.

Henry Quartey, a minister and member of parliament for Ayawaso Central, and Bernard Okoe Boye, the leader of NHIA and the NPP’s Ledzokuku parliamentary candidate, will be leading the two ministries, respectively. During the first term of the President, the two held the position of Deputy Minister in their respective ministries. Titus Glover, the MD of VALCO and a former Tema Central MP, has been appointed a new regional minister for Greater Accra.

All ministers who chose not to participate in the NPP Parliamentary Primaries have also been expelled from office.

The group is led by Minister of Roads Kwasi Amoako-Atta; Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister of Works and Housing, and Bantama MP, will take his place.

To cover the vacancy in the Works and Housing Ministry, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, underwent a reorganization that saw his deputy, Fatimatu Abubakar, promoted to the position of Minister of Information.

Dan Botwe, the MP for Okere and Local Government Minister, also steps down from office; his deputy, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the MP for Techiman South, becomes the new minister in waiting.

Sefwi Wiawso MP, the Environment Minister, was removed from office. Ophelia Hayford, the Mfantseman MP, was appointed to the Ministry of Environment. Wiawso MP also chose not to run in the NPP primary.
A handful of Ministers who lost their parliamentary primaries have also been removed by the President.

Water and Sanitation Minister Freda Prempeh, who took Cecilia Dapaah’s post around six months ago, was removed when she was defeated by Senior Technical Economic Advisor to the Vice President, Dr. Gideon Boako, in the Tano North primary. As the deputy majority whip, Freda Prempeh will return to parliament.
