Following the recent VRA spill from the Akosombo and Kpong dams, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has made a strong case for the urgent replacement of vital documents that his constituents have lost.

Thousands of people have been forced to leave Mepe and the surrounding Volta region due to the subsequent floods, which have caused severe damage and disruption.

Speaking to Parliament on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Mr. Ablakwa stressed the seriousness of the situation and urged pertinent government agencies to move quickly to help impacted parties replace their passports, voter ID cards, birth certificates, Ghana cards, and health insurance cards.

Crucially, in light of the exceptional circumstances his constituents face, he recommended that these replacements be performed at no cost.

In addition, Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that the government must immediately begin resettlement efforts and offer general compensation to victims of the VRA spillage in accordance with the constitution.

He emphasized that the government must act swiftly and decisively to fulfill its obligations, stressing that any more postponements in resolving the situation of these people would be intolerable.
