Following the protest in Accra on Wednesday, the organizers of the “Save Ghana Football” demonstration gave Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin a 15-point petition.

Subsequently an earlier-in-the-day march that began at Kwame Nkrumah Circle’s Obra Spot and ended at Black Star Square, the petition was presented.

Along with other things, the demonstrators wanted major changes to the way Ghanaian football is run. They contend that weak structures and leadership are to blame for Ghana’s football industry’s collapse.

The last factor that made the demonstration necessary was the Black Stars’ elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations during the group stage.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has referred a petition from some Sports journalists demonstrating against the underperformance of the Black Stars to the Committee on Youth and Sports for a probe.

The organizers of the petition included the dissolution of national team management committees as one of their demands, citing their outrageous per diems and perceived lack of productivity.
