National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has sharply opposed the decision of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to transfer a 60% share in four hotels to Bryan Acheampong, a minister in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Sammy Gyamfi called the agreement as a clear case of “lootocracy” and “state capture” by the NPP, stating that the transaction is an avenue designed by the ruling party to loot and share state resources.
“It’s a clear case of state capture, where the ruling party is using its power to enrich itself and its cronies,” Sammy Gyamfi stated
A government or political system that is characterized by a small number of individuals who utilize their positions of authority to pillage and loot the nation’s resources for their own benefit is known as a Lootocracy. It is a type of corrupt governance in which public servants put their personal interests ahead of the general welfare.
Sammy Gyamfi referred to the strategy of selling collapsed businesses as having a “lazy mind” when it comes to dealing with and rescuing firms.
He said that the agreement is not in the best interests of Ghanaians and accused Bryan Acheampong of undervaluing the nation.
“Selling off state assets to cronies is not a solution to saving struggling businesses,” Gyamfi added. “It’s a lazy approach that only benefits a few individuals at the expense of the state. Bryan Acheampong is shortchanging the country, and we will not allow it to happen.”
