The government has not responded to the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) demands for better working conditions, despite many demonstrations and discussions. As a result, the SSA-UoG has scheduled a complete statewide strike for Monday, September 16, 2024.
In a statement dated September 13, and bearing the signature of National Chairman George Ansong, the Association bemoaned the government’s failure to uphold earlier agreements, citing a number of factors.
They claim that in spite of an earlier agreement, the government has not implemented revised prices for vehicle maintenance and related allowances.
The government has not given Fund Managers Tier Two deductions since January 2024, according to the statement, and it failed to recalculate interest on Tier Two pension funds between 2010 and 2016.
All member campuses of the SSA-UoG have been instructed to closely follow the strike instruction, with an emphasis on the fact that the government’s inactivity has left them with little alternative but to take dramatic steps.
