To commemorate His Majesty’s Silver Jubilee, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation donated a total of GHC260,000 to promote Asanteman people and institutions in education.
This year’s unique “Otumfuo Silver Jubilee Day of Education” on Wednesday, April 17, brought attention to the foundation’s dedication to programs pertaining to culture and history, entrepreneurship, water and sanitation, and high-quality education.
The chairman of the Foundation’s board of trustees, Nana Prof Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, highlighted the Asantehene’s commitment to empowering Ghanaian youth via education, skill development, and business ventures. He urged everyone involved to keep up their support for the King’s program and the foundation’s work.
“In a nutshell, we have a diversity of beneficiaries in education, water and sanitation, culture and heritage and all this are under the auspices of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II foundation and as we are enjoying the silver jubilee, we want to remind Ghanaians of what the king has done in terms of capacity building, entrepreneurship, education. The King’s social development agenda is incredible, and an example is the commissioning of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II‘s Jubilee Hall days back. He is strongly appealing to all and sundry to also support the Heal Komfo Anokye project,’ he remarked.
After placing second in the national contest, 13-year-old Abena Kessewa Kwaffo of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Basic School, who was trained by the Foundation for The Spelling Bee 2024, was awarded GHC 135,000 ($10,000). In May, she will participate on a global level in the USA’s World Scripps spelling bee. Kessewaa promised to have an influence and improve Ghana’s standing.
At Otumfuo Osei Tutu Hiahene’s palace, a group of students from The Prempeh College Robotic Team, who were funded by the Foundation to an international competition conducted in Michigan, United States, last year, also made an appearance by giving the Foundation Chair their trophy.
In exchange for covering the team’s living expenses while they are in Michigan for the 2024 competition next month, they got a check for GHC25,000.00.
Members of the Prempeh College robotics team John Boateng and Emmanuel Ekow Kwaku Peprah counseled other students to pursue higher education goals, particularly in the area of technology.
Additional recipients honored the Otumfuo Silver Jubilee Education Day as well. Scholarship recipients from different postsecondary schools, known as the Otumfuo Recipient for Higher Learning, also profited from a GHC 100,000 education support. A few well-known people who had previously received scholarships from the Otumfuo Education Fund were present with them.
The winner of the second Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge, Lordina Adwoa Serwaa Agyapong, encouraged junior high school students to participate in the competition since it provided a platform for the empowerment of young people.
Women who had received training in traditionally male-dominated fields through the World University Service of Canada and the “Invest in Her” Project in partnership with the Otumfuo Foundation were also present at the event.
While undergoing training in computer hardware and networking, heavy machine operation, auto electrical, and electricians, these women received weekly stipends of GHC54,000 from the Otumfuo Foundation.
Each and every beneficiary conveyed their sincere appreciation to the King and the Foundation for their transformative assistance.
As part of Asantehene’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation held a “Otumfuo Silver Jubilee Day of Education” to raise a total of two hundred and sixty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 260,000) to be donated to individuals and institutions for the purpose of improving quality education for the Asanteman people. Nana Prof. stated that the much-heralded Silver Jubilee of His Majesty, which is showcasing his leadership with a global impact, cannot be fully celebrated without touching on his social impact for providing quality Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Entrepreneurship, as well as on Culture and Heritage.
The event also attracted females that has been taught in male – dominated trades via the World University Service of Canada and Otumfuo Foundation partnership under the “Invest in Her” Project. These ladies benefited from Otumfuo Foundation in the form of weekly stipends equal to Ghc 54,000 during their training as Electricians, Heavy Machine Operation, Auto Electrician and Computer Hardware & Networking.
Speaking with Sarkodie Samuel, the OTEC news reporter, the various groups expressed their gratitude the King via the Foundation for such programs that have the potential to change people’s lives.
