A parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Alban Bagbin paid a visit to Yakubu Andani Dasana, the Bimbilla regent, at his palace on Thursday.

As Ghana marks 30 years of continuous parliamentary democracy, the Rt Hon. Speaker and his team are working to bring Parliament to Ghanaians’ doorsteps. This courtesy call is one of their initiatives.

As he welcomed the Speaker and his delegation to the palace and the area, the Bimbilla regent stressed that the region was being developed through unity. He added, “That has been a shining example for many young people,” and praised the speaker for his leadership in the legislature.

Speaker Bagbin encouraged the people to live in peace and harmony and work toward improving their people’s quality of life through development, making reference to the proverbial tongue and cheek—two people who, despite being in the same mouth, disagree but nevertheless manage to get along.

The speaker, who descended from Bimbilla in part, discussed the significance of the chieftaincy in Ghana’s political structure and emphasized the necessity of integrating traditional leaders into the system.

The Volta Regional House of Chiefs members will meet with the Speaker on Friday. He will speak at a public forum that the Ho Technical University’s GM Afeti Auditorium will host.

A mock Parliamentary sitting will also be held today Saturday at the Ho Nurses Training College to mark the celebrations in the region.
