Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, met with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to talk about stadium security and the state of Ghanaian football in general after taking office on Monday, February 10, 2025.

Following the terrible event that resulted in the death of an Asante Kotoko fan during a league match against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Koramansah Park in Nsoatre in the Bono Region, the main focus of the talks was improving safety and security at match locations.

Prosper Harrison Addo, the General Secretary of the GFA, stated that the incident was being handled as a criminal matter while briefing the Minister on the investigation’s progress.

He gave the Minister the assurance that the GFA would work together with security forces to bring those responsible to justice.

The Minister underlined the gravity of losing a supporter at a game, and stated that anybody found guilty will be subject to the full force of the law.

In order to restore order in the Ghana Premier competition, he listed the measures the GFA has taken, including temporarily suspending the competition.

The Minister will examine and execute the improved safety procedures for match venues that the GFA has drafted after speaking with stakeholders.

Mr. Adams reiterated his resolve to combat hooliganism and enhance the stadium experience for spectators.

He instructed the GFA and the Ministry’s Chief Director to assemble a team to evaluate the suitability of stadiums across the country and make sure they adhere to the necessary requirements.

Furthermore, he called on the GFA to step up its “Say No to Hooliganism” program to instruct officials, players, and supporters on appropriate behavior at game locations.

In order to increase stadium attendance and revive football in Ghana, he promised to regularly interact with the GFA.

The Minister urged everyone involved to cooperate fully and accept the meeting’s conclusion, stressing that solving problems in Ghanaian sports is more important than assigning blame.
