The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has urged the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) to put pressure on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to remove certain obnoxious levies that the Akufo-Addo administration imposed.
“Tell Bawumia to eliminate the E-Levy and other taxes now, not later,” Mahama tells GUTA.
Mahama stressed the severity of the matter in his speech to GUTA members and asked Dr. Bawumia, who also represents the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to act now rather than waiting till he takes office.
In a prior speech to Ghanaians about his presidential aspirations, Dr. Bawumia laid out ideas to eliminate a number of taxes, including the E-Levy, emissions tax, VAT on energy, and the betting tax.
Mahama, however, asked the members of GUTA to hold Dr. Bawumia responsible for his promises and warned them not to blindly believe his assurances.
