John Dramani Mahama, a former president of Ghana, claims that he chose to submit his nomination to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2024 elections because he stands out among his rivals as the best candidate to defeat whoever the New Patriotic Party will put forth in that year’s elections.
The former president claims that the NPP is utterly terrified by even the mention of his name.
Speaking to party members in Somanya as part of a three-day tour of the Eastern Region, Mr. Mahama said that other candidates have no chance of defeating the NPP in the 2024 elections, which is why he decided to return. He also said that now is not the time to take a chance with a new person.
“I wouldn’t have contested If I was sure that my contenders for the NDC presidential slot could stand against the NPP and win the 2024 general elections, but we cannot take the risk. The only person the NPP fears amongst NDC members is me, John Dramani Mahama”.
“When they [NPP] hear my name, they can’t fall asleep. They have been asking for a new person because of this. Are you the ones to advise us on what to do? I think God has already given us the power, so it’s none of your concern,” he replied.
