There was no shooting incident at Assin North by-election-Police

According to the Ghana Police Service, there have been no incidents of people or vehicles being shot at during the by-election in the Assin North seat.

They have recognized the existence of a few rare events, including one in which a gun is said to have been shot into the air.

Police have told the public that they are looking into every instance that has been reported, and that they have also made arrests, with the suspects presently being held in jail and collaborating with the investigations.

A sufficient number of police officers have been stationed throughout the constituency, they said in a statement, to ensure security and uphold law and order not just during the election but also afterward.

POLICE UPDATE ON ASSIN NORTH BY-ELECTION

Voting within the Assin North Constituency commenced this morning and progressed as expected in all polling stations across the Constituency.

The Police, however, recorded pockets of incidents, including an alleged incident of an individual shooting into the air. We wish to state that no person or vehicle has been shot at within the constituency. All the recorded incidents are being investigated and Police have also arrested some suspects who are in custody assisting our investigation.

Adequate Police personnel have been deployed throughout the constituency to ensure security, law and order for the remaining period of the election and beyond.

We would like to urge all stakeholders to redouble their commitment to work with the Police to ensure a peaceful election especially as the exercise draws to a close.

Three candidates are vying for the office of Member of Parliament (MP) in the Assin North constituency in the by-election. The contenders are Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), and James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
