According to Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, President Akufo-Addo is attempting to cover up the agreement between Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Dr. Ato Forson believes that President Akufo-Addo’s order to halt the contract and conduct an audit is too little, too late, and that it is a ploy to get Parliament to abstain from carrying out its entire oversight duty over the controversial contract.

The NDC MPs are alert and will not be duped, the lawmaker from Ajumako Enyan Essiam stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday, January 2.

Dr. Ato Forson, a former finance minister, gave Ghanaians assurances that the NDC MPs would see to it that the scandal was thoroughly investigated and that those found guilty were held accountable.

“The President, who should have led this fight in the wake of this scandal, is playing catch-up since Parliament has also directed GRA to suspend all payments to SML.

“This whitewashing attempt by the President in the name of an audit will not dissuade Parliament from looking into this matter to stop the siphoning of state resources into the private pockets of government officials and their crony business partners.”

Following President Akufo-Addo’s order for an audit into the GRA and SML contract, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson made his comments.

The audit is expected to take place over the course of two weeks and is being carried out by KPMG.

The precise terms of reference that President Akufo-Addo laid out for the upcoming KPMG audit are described in a press release from the Presidency that was issued by Communications Director Eugene Arhin.

The remarks made by Dr. Ato Forson highlight enduring worries and the requirement for a thorough analysis of the GRA-SML contract.
